Compress Image to 50KB

Select a JPG, PNG or WEBP and shrink it to 50KB or less — right in your browser.

Drag & drop your image here, or

Reduces width and height so the image stays sharp at the target file size.

When to use this instead of the JPG tool

Use this page when the file you are holding is not a JPG. Screenshots save as PNG, images downloaded from websites are frequently WEBP, and a phone screenshot of a document is almost always PNG — but the portal asking for 50KB usually expects a JPG. This tool accepts JPG, PNG and WEBP, converts to JPG and hits the 50KB target in one step. If your file is already a JPG, the dedicated JPG version has guidance written specifically for photographs.

What to expect at 50KB

At 50KB, starting from a non-JPG file:

Starting fileTypical result
PNG screenshot of a form or documentaround 900 × 675 px, text still readable
PNG logo or graphic with flat colouroften fits at full size
WEBP image saved from a websitearound 600 × 450 px

PNG files are commonly 5–10× larger than the same image stored as JPG, so the drop from PNG to a 50KB JPG is dramatic — and for photographs it is almost always worth it.

How it works

  1. Select your file using the box above — it stays on your device.
  2. We compress it in your browser, adjusting quality and dimensions until it fits under 50KB.
  3. Download the result — your original file never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the output come out as a JPG?

Because PNG cannot reach 50KB for a photograph without destroying it. PNG is lossless, which is excellent for graphics and unhelpful for hitting small file-size targets. JPEG discards detail selectively and reaches 50KB while still looking acceptable.

My PNG has a transparent background. What happens to it?

Transparent areas become white, because JPEG has no transparency channel. If transparency matters, do not use a KB target — keep the file as PNG or WEBP.

Should I use this or the JPG version?

Same engine, different starting point. Use this page for PNG, WEBP or mixed files. Use Compress JPG to 50KB when you already have a JPG and want guidance written around photographs and portal photo requirements.

Can I convert the format without setting a size target?

Yes. The PNG to JPG converter changes format only and leaves the quality decision to you.
